Caledonia Investments plc has announced that it has completed the purchase of the UK’s largest retail bingo operator, Gala Bingo, from Gala Coral Group.
Caledonia acquired 130 Gala Bingo clubs for a fee of £241m. Gala Bingo was formed in 1991 and currently holds a 38% share of the retail bingo UK market. It’ll continue to trade under the Gala brand thanks to a licence agreement with Gala Coral.
The sale removes another obstacle in the merger between Ladbrokes and Coral, although there are several more challenges to face for that deal to be completed.
Simon Wykes, Chief Executive Officer of Gala Bingo (Retail) said of the agreement: “This is a landmark moment for Gala Bingo and I am proud to be leading this business through the next stages of its lifecycle. We have some ambitious and exciting growth plans to now put in place. It’s great to have an investor with the financial backing to match our ambitions, and signifies the start of a fresh, new chapter in the story of Gala Bingo.”
Gala Bingo has over 1.1m active members and its main income streams are Main Stage Bingo, a quicker version called Party Xtra, electronic gaming machines and food and drink.

Alkmaar to Hoorn.
Today enjoy a leisurely cruise as the ship sails from Alkmaar along the canal to Den Helder where you see the bulb fields along this stretch, then over the ljsssel lake to the bustling port of Hoorn, birthplace of the explorer Willem Schouten (who named the infamous cape Horn after his hometown). Explore the 17th century merchant houses and warehouses lining the waterfronts and the huge variety of ships, boats and yachts in the harbour.B, L, D
Day 3
Hoorn to Zaandam.
Depart the ship after breakfast from Hoorn to visit the most beautiful spring garden in the world, Keukenhof, filled with 32 hectares of colour and fragrance. Afterwards there will be opportunity to visit a shop selling many varieties of tulip bulbs for you to take home with you. On our return to our ship visit a family-run cheese and clog making outlet. There will be demonstrations of how they make their local famous cheese, with tastings afterwards, and how they craft their clogs. Refreshments provided. Zaandam to Amsterdam.
Enjoy a free morning in Zandaam before the ship sets sail at 12 noon for Amsterdam. Amsterdam to UK.

MV ESMERALDA***Lci Ltd Gala Bingo 2020
The MV Esmeralda has become a firm favourite for river cruising, and is a comfortable vessel decorated in traditional Dutch style. The 63 cabins are all the same size and all have air conditioning, TV, mini safe and en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and washstand. The lounge and reception area are located on the upper deck, and the tastefully decorated restaurant is located on the main deck. There is a lift between the promenade deck and the main deck, as well as a chair lift to the sun deck.
